Balletto di Parma

Dance company

Balletto di Parma was born from the strong desire of its founders, Lucia Giuffrida and Francesco Frola, to be able to offer young dancers a bridge to the professional world.

Student to Dancer

The main mission of the Balletto di Parma is to prepare its talented and young dancers to embark on professional careers in the world’s most prestigious companies. The school serves as a conduit to transform students into professional dancers of high caliber and versatility.

Choreographers:
established and new promises

The company offers each year a contemporary performance that includes two or three creations entrusted, in part, to established professionals and, in part, to young choreographers who have distinguished themselves in their own personal, innovative and quality research.

A second program includes pieces from the classical and contemporary repertoire.

Creations of the 2021/2022 season

  • What They See Is Not What We See.
cor. Nnamdi Christopher Nwagwu (duration 40 min)
  • Interval (duration 15 min)
  • CarneViva
cor. Francis Gammino (duration 30 min)

The first piece is by the very young Nnamdi choreographer Christopher Nwagwu. “What they are is not what we see” is inspired by sociologist Charles Horton Cooley’s theory of the three selves: how we would like to be seen, how we see ourselves, how others see us.

Nwagwu focused on the intimacy of the subjects on stage and the discovery of themselves in relation to the group (understood as society) and how helpful or unhelpful self-discovery can be in “adjusting” to society. The ten dancers will slowly lead you into the deepest self of each of them!
